Addressed to Foreign Office telegram No. 30 of July 13th repeated for information to Hong Kong.
Vatican Stato that Governor of Hong Kong has requisitioncd Dominican Convent at Rosary Hill and ordered Fathers to leave before July 15th. The Convent is at present inhabited by about 200 persons including, besidcs the Dominicans, the Cardinal Archbishop, some Spanish Dominicans and numerous Chinesc ccclesiastical students from parts of China under Communist domination, as well as Philippine Chincsc and Spanish students already in residence. People concerned bcg that requisition order should not be enforced or that at least part of the buildings should continue in their occupation.
2. Vatican asks that decision of requisition may be abandoned, or at any rate postponed, mentioning pain- ful impression likely to be created in Catholic missionary circles by enforcement of rcquisition order and cviction, sceing particularly that Rosary Hill Convent is at present the refuge of persons sorcly tried by war.
